Fenugreek is a clover-like plant from the Mediterranean region, southern Europe and western Asia. Its seeds, which have a maple-syrup-like smell and taste, have been used for cooking and as medicine. Fenugreek is used as an ingredient in spice blends and as a flavoring agent in food, beverages and tobacco. Fenugreek extract is also used in soaps and cosmetic products.
In North Africa, Asia and southern Europe, fenugreek has been traditionally used as a traditional "treatment" for diabetes and to stimulate lactation in breastfeeding women.
